Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Agraria volunteer. Our volunteers accompany students on field trips, assist with events and conferences, and help with special projects. See more details below. Please email volunteer@communitysolution.org or call 937-767-2161 for more information. Some volunteer opportunities may be restricted due to COVID-19.

Land Management

Folks can expect a wide variety of tasks, including barn building projects, invasive removal, cutting and breakdown of brush, gardening and weeding, transplanting, and other general land care. Please register here for upcoming volunteer days with the Land Team every 3rd Wednesday of Each Month.

Outreach & Events

We’ve held an annual conference nearly every year since 1940. In recent years we’ve focused on our soil and our food system, both globally and locally through our Center for Regenerative Practice, Agraria. Prior to 2017, our conferences mainly addressed the problems of peak oil, climate change, and increasing inequity. Volunteers can come to assist with the variety of needs we have during our conferences.

Strengthening the Local Food System

We host the Produce Perks/SNAPS program at the Yellow Springs Farmers Market and are seeking volunteers for managing the table. All volunteers get trained on how to use the machines and get to enjoy building relationships with the community.

Media & Marketing

We have a number of projects and events going on that need recorded and advertised. Work with our media team to help document what is going on at Agraria, and help spread the word about the amazing work happening at Agraria.

GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Bring your group out to volunteer at Agraria this spring and help us get ready to open our bike path! The Agraria-Yellow Springs bike trail will be a 1-mile connector between our site to the Village of Yellow Springs. The path will operate as a way to get people moving on their way out to our land while reducing the need for short car rides. We’ll be installing native plants along the path to increase plant biodiversity while providing forage and habitat for native wildlife– two important steps to supporting a sustainable ecosystem and combating climate change in our region! But first, we need your help in removing Out of Place Species (OOPS) like amur honeysuckle and garlic mustard. Volunteers will be performing tasks that include using tools to remove OOPS, breaking down & moving brush piles, and chopping wood.

Who can volunteer: Agraria’s group volunteer projects are best suited for groups between 3-20 adults. Youth above 13 are welcome with appropriate supervision, but please be mindful some tasks can be dangerous. If you’re interested in volunteering as an individual or with a youth group please contact us for more volunteer opportunities.

What to bring: Water & snacks. Work gloves can be provided but many volunteers prefer to bring their own. Because our late winter & early spring volunteer days will be chilly please dress for the weather!
